Patel’s next career chapter took him to Meta during the COVID-19 pandemic, relocating to Silicon Valley to join two high-impact engineering teams: Payouts and Instagram Channels. His contributions to the Payouts team involved enhancing systems that had been in operation for nearly a decade, crucial infrastructure for a company of Meta’s magnitude. He focused on completely redesigning these payout systems, integrating automation to streamline processes such as validation, reconciliation, approval flows, and ledgering. One of the key advancements was a system for ad-hoc payments, which enabled Meta to disburse funds more swiftly during emergencies like natural disasters or significant service disruptions.

“Our objective with these initiatives was to ensure that individuals received assistance promptly, both during regular occurrences and extraordinary emergencies, without needing manual intervention,” Patel explains. These improvements carried substantial financial and compliance ramifications. By automating previously manual processes and implementing rules-based systems, Patel and his team significantly mitigated the risk of costly mistakes and regulatory infractions while enhancing the consistency and timeliness of payment operations.
