Flux Halving Pushes Kadena Node Change for Faster Updating and Response

1 min read

Flux’s upcoming halving is bringing about changes, including a new phase in how they support Kadena. Read more about how this halving will change and improve their current node structure.

With the upcoming halving of the Flux network, Kadena Chainweb Node and Kadena Chainweb Data application will be changing their scheme on the Flux network. This change is to take place in the last week of February transitioning in within the first week of March. Both applications will not be a local application installable by the Flux node operator directly but they will run as several global applications on the network. This ensures more control over the application, allows faster updating, managing binds it to the strict set of rules of FluxOS. This change also updates the bumps up hardware specifications required by both Chainweb Node and Chainweb data which will ensure faster response times.

Kadena Application A:
– 5x 50 instances
– Single component application
– Kadena Chainweb Node
– latest tag of runonflux/kadena-chainweb-node
– 3 CPU cores, 5000 ram, 140gb ssd

Kadena Application B:
– 5x 50 instances
– Dual component application
– Kadena Chainweb Node
— latest tag of runonflux/kadena-chainweb-node
— 3 cpu cores, 6000 ram, 140gb ssd
– Kadena Chainweb Data
— latest tag of runonflux/kadena-chainweb-data
— 3.8 cpu cores, 8000 ram, 100gb ssd

Totally there will be 500 instances of Chainweb Node and 250 instances of Chainweb Data running on Flux. This also changes the way node operators are rewarded for running the Kadena application.

Changes for the Halving:
– Only Nimbus and Stratus nodes are eligible for a reward (same)
– Nodes must set their Kadena payout accounts, chain (same)
– ALL Nimbus and Stratus nodes are getting basic KDA rewards for participating in the network. Stratus is getting 4 times the amount as Nimbus node. The basic reward is to be 85% of the distribution round
– Nodes that got lucky and Kadena Application A is running on them correctly will get a little bonus of KDA. This reward is equal to 5% of the distribution round
– Nodes that got lucky and Kadena Application B is running on them correctly will get a little bonus of 2X. This reward is equal to 10% of the distribution round
– Payouts will be made BI-WEEKLY instead of weekly

Example:
The distribution round is 200 KDA
There is 500 Nimbus and 500 Stratus nodes on the network
Totally 170 KDA is distributed for basic reward (0.068 for Nimbus, 0.272 for Stratus)
Totally 10 KDA is distributed to nodes running application A (0.04 KDA)
Totally 20 KDA is distributed amongst the nodes running application B (0.08KDA)

We reserve the right for slight adjustments of the system and changes to the distribution as requested by the customer.
